Mr. Liu Xiaobo winning 2010 Nobel Peace Prize

Posted by btr Fri, 08 Oct 2010 14:30:00 GMT

Congratulation to Mr. Liu for his 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, who is still in prison in China.

He courageously negotiated with advancing troops for the safe withdraw of students from Tiananmen Square in the early hours on June 4th, 1989. In 2009, he was sentenced to jail due to his involvement of Charter 08.

Prius News ...

Used Prius prices like new. Now, who says a car is depreciating asset? My 2004 Prius can be sold now probably for the same price I paid for with 16k miles on it.

Karen Carpenter

Posted by btr Thu, 02 Dec 2004 03:06:45 GMT

I ordered a Carpenters Gold - 35th Anniversary Edition CD set for my wife as Christmas gift from amazon.com. Both of us love Karen Carpenter's songs very much. I first heard her songs on cassette in 1983 the year she died (Feb 4, 1983). There was no Internet then, we had limited access to the world, mostly through short-wave radio or some printed media. So I knew very little about herself other than her crystal clear, amazingly beautiful voice, and wonderful melodies.

To get free shipping, I ordered another CD for myself, Yo-Yo Ma's Sinfonia Concertante/Tchiakovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme/Andante Cantabile.

Get rid of bees and Duct Tape ...

Posted by btr Sat, 28 Aug 2004 19:09:50 GMT

How do you get rid of bees?

There’s a bee nest inside the siding right below the gutter in my house. I have used those jet sprays to kill the bees with some success, but it can not get rid of them. It looks like the insecticide concentration is not high enough to kill the bees on contact as advertised. The bees would be killed only if they were covered with the chemicals, which is hard since they do not stay still near the nest.

I have used duct tape to cover the nest, but they managed to get in and out after a few days when the tape became loose. I did find out that the tape did trap a lot of bees when I replaced with new tapes.

I will keep using duct tape until the bees are gone or I find something better.

Printing money can't solve global debt problems, says legendary hedge fund investor Julian Robertson. Sadly, it's the overwhelming strategy being used today by global leaders, but it creates tremendous volatility in the market and doesn't get us any closer to fixing our problems. Unfortunately, as long as the printing presses around the world keep running, politicians will avoid the difficult decisions - like necessary cuts in spending - and take the easy way out rather than risk losing votes. December 15th, 2011 Stock Market Recap

A very "blah" day for the markets. Nothing crazy exciting beyond Zynga (ZNGA) selling 100 million shares at $10 and starting its trading tomorrow alongside Research in Motion (RIMM) posting sour earnings (the stock is down over 7% after hours).
